• Mirrors and wooden panels (interior fittings/ doors) 
• Old barn doors (indoor) 
• Bricks, cobble stones and concrete paving slabs (interior wall and paving outside) 
• Sinks (bathrooms) 

The project

The “Recyclinghaus” serves as a pilot project and a source of inspiration for reuse and recycling operations. Among other things, the windows from an existing building were to be reused. As a result, 12 of the aluminium windows removed from the “Haus der Jugend” in Hannover, Linden during the renovation carried out by Gundlach at the same time were reused in the “Recyclinghaus”. Whereas in other projects the search for suitable windows usually only begins once the planning application has been submitted, in this case the windows from a parallel project could be utilised during the planning process, as Gundlach was both the client and the contractor. The rest of the removed windows were donated to the Gleis D skate hall. There, they were used to glaze a ticket office area (box in box). 

It quickly became clear that only the frames from the removed windows could be used, as the energy standard stipulated in the local regulations in Kronsberg (comparable to KfW 55) was mandatory. As data, including U-values, was available for the windows dating from 2007, it was straightforward to assess whether the standards would be met. The removed panes were used to glaze the event space of the ‘OSCO’ Platzprojekt, to which the panes were donated. Furthermore, the metal and façade contractor was able to adapt the new glazing to the frames without any problems, as he had already installed the windows in the original project and was therefore familiar with the product and the installation process, and could also take responsibility for it.
