The project
While designing the workplace for the non-profit organisation Cultureghem, the architects sensed the staff's enthusiasm to roll up their sleeves themselves. The choice to use reclaimed oak parquet flooring was therefore quickly made. The material is very rewarding because it is easy to work with. The planks, +/- 125m2, come from a parquet floor from the AXA bank offices in rue de la Régence in Brussels. De Clercq + Declercq Architects designed a podium. This divides the open space into four separate office spaces and a common area. The podium continues as a partition in which the various coloured clearing bins are stored. Cultureghem staff themselves glued the wooden planks in herringbone bond on a wooden base. As the parquet had already been varnished, no new varnish was needed and its beautiful patina could be preserved.
